Practical teaching in Pathology at UG level includes exercises of Clinical Pathology like urine examination

,and Hematology which includes, Hemoglobin, PCV and ESR estimations. Preparation of a blood smear and their staining by one of the Romanowsky stains followed by a Differential Leukocyte Count (DLC) is an essential part of practical teaching. Total RBC, WBC and Platelet counting on Neubauer's Chamber is although covered in Physiology teaching during their first Professional curriculum , but it is revised in the tutorial as well as practical classes along with their clinical significance of variation in results.

The tutorial teaching of other clinical and Biochemical tests like body fluids, GTT, LFT, KFT and lipid profile are well covered during their teaching of tutorials. In Histopathology gross specimens and their microscopic slides are taught in detail. Hematology slides are shown and the usage of instruments is very much part of practical training. The practical examination is designed to cover and assess the student in all these subjects.

Any book of practical in pathology which covers all these aspects of practical teaching and assessment methodology is ideally recommended to the students. The market is flooded with books of Practical in Pathology, but the book by Dr. Tejinder Singh and Dr. Uma Chaturvedi fits the bill perfectly, which fulfils all the above mentioned criteria. understanding and makes the subject self explanatory. The description is structured for an easy grasp. The language and the style of description makes the reading easy.

In the chapter on Leukemia and Cell Markers , the principle and practical application of flow cytometry should have also been introduced. A reference to the diagnostic significance of FISH could have updated our students.

The best part of the book is the viva voce given at the end of each chapter. The questions have been framed in such a way that almost all the questions routinely asked in viva voce are covered. The answers which have been given in the book, if thoroughly prepared by students and presented in exams shall definitely fetch very good marks.

The paper , printing quality and getup is world class.

This book is an ideal book for our UG students and shall also be beneficial for residents for their practical teaching of UGs and for their quick revision before their own examination.

The book is highly recommended for practical teaching of Pathology of MBBS students.
